Chambers Anagrams for Crosswords, Scrabble, and All Other Word Games: From Chambers 20th Century Dictionary
Published in Paperback by W & R Chambers (February, 1987)
Authors: Chaz R. Pewters, Esther C. Zwarp, and Zac Wherpster
Average review score:

The ideal Crosswords and Scrabble tool
Extremely fast and easy to use. All you have to do is get the length of the word to jumble, put all its letters in alphabetical sequence and find the result. For example, want an anagram of MINUTELY ? The length is 8 and letters sorted become EILMNTUY. Look for 8EIL on page headers and you will quickly arrive to the other anagram UNTIMELY.
The only restriction is when it comes to plurals. Remove the final S and decrease word length by one to find the proper anagram. For example, the anagram for COMPUTERS is only found as COMPUTER.

Chambers Biographical Dictionary

Share your desert island with 20,000 people!
If I could only take one book to a desert island this would have to be a strong contender. Imagine sharing the island with Cleopatra, Mae West and Salome. Or, if you of a different persuasion, Samson, Rudolph Valentino or Henry VIII. Lovers, heroes, scientists, sinners, saints, criminals, writers, musicians, explorers. The people who made history. You will never be bored

Chambers Mini Dictionary
Published in Paperback by Cambridge University Press (January, 1987)
Authors: Cambridge University Press and Chambers
Average review score:

FINE THING, BUT MAY BE ECLIPSED BY CD-ROMs
This light-weight easy-to-use dictionary was designed for travellers who are not eager to compromise their grammar.
It is versatile, completely revised and up-to-date. It boasts of a wide-ranging appendices, as well as a reasonable price. Its new layout makes entries easier to locate. Everything about this "mini" is contemporary. It is a delight to have.
However, the presence of more detailed, more versatile dictionaries in the semblance of CD-ROMs, would give it a run for its money.

Chambers Scots Dictionary
Published in Hardcover by Chambers (January, 1987)
Author: Alexander Warrack
Average review score:

An excellent dictionary of Scots/Lallans
This is a very comprehensive dictionary. It's a Scotch-English dictionary, so it can't be used to convert English to Scottish, but if you're trying to work out what a certain Scotch word means it's invaluable. It has all the common words and even some basic phrases (for example it explains that "ye're" stands for "you are") but it also has some very obscure words in there (did you know that "toog" is Scottish for "a small hillock"?)

Chronicles of Negro Protest: A Background Book for Young People, Documenting the History of Black Power,
Published in Hardcover by MacMillan Publishing Company (June, 1968)
Author: Bradford, Comp. Chambers
Average review score:

A good foundation.
This book is comprised of documents, and historical accounts of black history all the way from biblical references to the concept of being black as a curse, to Nat Turner, to Malcom X and black separatism. It's a very easy read, and starts off primarily offering background into the documents, and then later discussing the implications of them. There are some instances in the book where the reader could misconstrue the writing to be biased and injust, but in all honesty, the book was written in 1968, and I think the retrospect afforded by this fact justifies this. Overall this was a very well written, and important book in black history, and I only wish it was continued on, as history is a continual process.

Smiles to Out Right Laughter
If you have been in Church very long at all, you will be delighted with Mary Chamber's work. Each page is a cartoon of someone you know from Sunday School or a board meeting. Her humor is gentle and yet can still drive a point home. This book makes a great gift for any pastor or Church staffer.

Complete Chamber Music for Pianoforte and Strings
Published in Paperback by Dover Pubns (June, 1973)
Author: Franz Schubert
Average review score:

Fantastic edition and low price!
Dover has done a great job putting all these pieces together in only one edition. The size is portable, light, and the paper does not reflect the light ... only one thing: it does not provide bar numbers, so if you have to work the music detail you have to write them down.

Complete String Quintets
Published in Paperback by Dover Pubns (December, 1978)
Author: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Average review score:

Very good
It is a very good edition, with large noteheads and a good and strong folding. There is the best of Mozart here: not only the great string quintets, but also the horn quintet and the astonishing clarinet quintet.

This edition is based on the Breitkopf & Haertel score, which was printed in the 1880s. There aren't notes about the source texts used (unlike Gal's editions of Brahms scores also published by Dover). This is a pity, since the autograph of the clarinet quintet is lost and it would have been useful to know where they took it.
